Compostable plastic made using food waste.

There is no waste.

Just resources.

Imagine a petroleum-free and waste-free world.

WE ARE TACKLING

Plastic pollution

Land-grabbing

Loss of biodiversity

We are driven by values

We are accelerating responsible consumption and production. We are helping our customers – plastic converters, which are facing increased regulatory pressure regarding plastic waste – and we also tackle serious environmental problems like the pollution of oceans and land.

OUR CAL

At YNGVIK we are making compostable bio-plastic tackling not only plastic pollution, but also the problem of monocultures used for the production of current bio-plastics competing with food production and causing loss of bio diversity following two simple steps.

Step one, we are collecting food waste from farmers, supermarkets and, in the beginning, the DTU canteens.

And step two, we use precision fermentation on the collected food waste to synthesize our own novel plastic polymer – we call it CAL – which can be used for different forms of plastic.

We are focusing on two different forms of CAL: a thin film and an adhesive for which we already have our initial product recipe. Made out of food waste, our plastic CAL degrades naturally in water. It also shows promising signs of being not only industrial, but home compostable.

OUR PROTOTYPES

OUR ADHESIVE

is a semi-solid material with high resistance to drying while maintaining grip strength.

OUR THIN FILM

is transparent with properties similar to traditional wrapping film, but disintegrates rapidly in water.
